Doomsday Preppers | The Update

By Senior Ps. Erich & Joanne Eisenhart

Hey Church!

I was recently reading a financial report from a big-time investor in which he was telling all his recipients about his view of future financial markets. To put the whole article in a nutshell, “grab all the cash you can and stock up on food.” So I went into our pantry and checked up on our food supply. My quick observation revealed we had about a week’s supply, a little short of his recommended 6-month supply. The good news was that we had 6 jars of all natural peanut butter and if you know our family, that’s all we need with a few crackers.

Now how do I get this to the spiritual? Despite what the “doomsdayers” say, we should never have a “bunker mentality,” which causes us to retreat from life when God has called us to advance. I can remember the verse I learned in Sunday school as a little child, “But my God will supply all my needs according to his riches in glory” (Philippians 4:17). Notice the emphasis is on his riches, not ours. And what about this verse found in Jeremiah 17:7-8, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord, for he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit.”

Don’t get me wrong, we must do all we can to prepare for our future, but there are some things we have no control over. So put your trust and your hope in God, and be part of an advancing church that plunders hell and populates heaven!
